World Club Challenge 2009
just been reading the news of the world comic about the RFL are trying to organise a world club challenge between the top 6 in super league V top 6 NRL 2 from france and 2 from NZ for June 2009
now that is a real lot of games to look forward to.
it would be good to see just how good our top 6 at club level are agains the best of the rest of the world.
any thoughts from the rest of the forum????????

Re: World Club Challenge 2...
Excellent idea, IMO; the more games our players get against top class opposition, the better. That, allied to the new quota rules which are gradually getting tighter, has to be good for the international game.
Re: World Club Challenge 2009
When would they be played? If time can be found for these games that time would be far better spent playing proper internationals. How about against France for example.
This is just elevating the club game above Internationals once again.
I see no advantage to our game of letting our SL Kiwi's and Aussies play against the NRL's.
Stupid idea IMO.
Dave

Re: World Club Challenge 2...
IMO the international matches dont get enough exposure to the rest of the country and when it does get some exposure we seem to lose at the final herdle.
For me i would love the warriors to beat the best of the NRL and others it would be another thing that wigan will have done first before the other (stains and yorkshire wanabies)
bring it on.
It says the matches are proposed to be played in the June time over a period of 23 days. by 2009 the quota of foreign player wil be less so it can only be better for the british game.

Re: World Club Challenge 2...
IMVOO it would be a good idea but the number of clubs taking part are too high.
Like Dave said when will all those games be played? Surely the top 3 from the NRL and SL should play each other pre-season in Australia then in the UK, like a knockout? The only problem would be clubs not fielding strong teams in case of injuries.
it would be something different.

Re: World Club Challenge 2...
Really enjoyed that tournament in 1997. We had a really good chance of winning it had we not been robbed by Russell Smith in the QF.
Re: World Club Challenge 2...
The 1997 tournament was very damaging IMO. Most British Clubs got destroyed.
Re: World Club Challenge 2...
Our game has got better since then by all accounts. What better way to test that theory?
Re: World Club Challenge 2...
IMO, we need something intermediate between club and international games; the equivalent of Origin games. This would have been a possibility.
Sadly, this particular rumour has been killed off by the RFL.
