I have never seen the pitch in such bad condition at this time of the year. Our players are going to struggle the keep their feet on this terrible surface.

yeah but did you hear the commentators saying its a rugby league pitch and that although they havnt played on it this week you can tell its a double sports pitch...
we havnt played on it since october, i think the fact that its been p*****g it down for a month at least, wont help it....

or the under pitch heatingim not sure here just guessing[/quote]From what I could see of the pitch, it can't handle the winter months, hasn't been able too since Latics and ourselves moved there. That strip that runs through the middle of the pitch seemed to be just ripping up, and like the other fella said, at least the real Blue team won, as well as the mighty Warriors!!!

im a latics fan
dont think ither ruin the pitch, very unfair to blame it on the rugby seeing as they havent played on it since october
most pitches are relayed every couple of months, especially when there are 2 sports played on them.
whelan only has it relayed once a year though.
Poor groundsmen as well

Its the design of the stadia....
lack of sunlight (when we actually get it in wigan).
lack of air circulating also!
many will say "well similar stadia dont have those probs as much". but they have the technology!
'sunlight machines'!

Just to correct you on one of your points. I was part of the Architectural team that drew up all the original plans for the whole regeneration of the Robin Park area. The original feasibility study was undertaken in about 1994/5, and was a small part of the Manchester Olympic Bid for the 2000 Olympic games.
The stadium has been built at a calculated angle to the arc that the Sun travels in across the sky. This was done so that the pitch will receive optimum sunlight (on the odd occasion that it shines) and also ensures the sun doesn't shine directly down the pitch into players eyes. It also took into account the direction of the prevailing winds.
The poor pitch is probably just down to the fact that Whelan is too tight to spend money on having a new pitch every few months and the fact that it has been shrouded under a blanket of black clouds and rain of near Biblical proportions since the end of last Summer, not that we had much of one.
Hope this gives you all something else to ponder over for the next few weeks until the real season starts.
