ST Helens whistler Steve Ganson is now able to referee Saints games.
Rule changes, advocated by Ganson last season to allow refs to officiate games featuring their home town teams, have been adopted.
From this season onwards, referees will be appointed to any match in the competition regardless of their place of residence. The appointments will be made on the sole basis of form and merit by the Match Officials Director Stuart Cummings.
Nigel Wood said: "This change is a modernisation of the appointments system and reflects the growing professionalism and standards of our full-time match officials as well as the professionalism of the individuals themselves."
