I was at a conference last week and John Presott was one of the speakers. This was the topic of conversation when I collared him for a pint after the meal.

Basically, although not directly involved as chairman, he put it down to some astute marketing and communication by the Board and coaching staff.

By releasing a number of players they have then gone about recruiting some real quality and not paying over the odds; pitching a longer term investment with the club expending, likely success of a franchise spot, ground development etc. I understand some of the players have signed on reduced sums on a promise of larger contracts as more player movements take shape.

...from John Prescotts mouth so I would take it with a pinch of salt....

if you look at the full hkr squad you will see they have a very googd 1 to 17 but after that the quality of players drops alarmingly. 3 or 4 long term injuries to key platers and it could be a long painfull season for them.

How can they do that? Surely each new player wouldn’t agree to play for ten bob, So how and where has the money come from for 10 new players? Also having to pay for transfer fees for Walker, (which Wigan would not pay as the amount was to high), and if not more other players. :conf:
it was 1.7million max or 50% of your yearly intake, the rfl have taken away the 50% so you can spend up to 1.7m no matter what, in other words after 3yrs hkr will be bankrupt unless they win the cc and the gf 3yrs in a row, and the same with other teams who dont have as much money coming in

Hull KR are already banking on a guaranteed franchise spot!
What happens IF they don't get it - is anybody's guess.
