Broncos overlook Saints boss
Brisbane choose Ivan Henjak over Anderson for head coach role
Last updated: 20th April 2008

Daniel Anderson's hopes of a job in Australia's National Rugby League on his return were dealt another blow this week.

The St Helens coach, who is due to return to Australia at the end of the season, has been looking for a head coaching job back home.

But on Saturday the Brisbane Broncos became the latest in a string of clubs to overlook Anderson after they announced that Ivan Henjak will succeed Wayne Bennett in 2009.

Anderson's manager Jim Banaghan first put him forward for the Broncos job when Bennett announced his intention to quit after 21 years.

Banaghan stepped up interest when Brisbane's number one target Craig Bellamy rejected their offer in favour of signing a new five-year contract at Melbourne, but it was to no avail.

Vacancies at North Queensland, St George Illawarra and Canterbury Bulldogs have all being filled in recent weeks as the coaching merry-go-round begins to grind to a halt.

As a result Anderson has seen his options shrinking on an almost daily basis and could soon be faced with having to settle for an assistant role.

The prospect is sure to come as a bitter blow to the coach who guided Saints to the Super League and Challenge Cup double in 2006.
