Roof shut again for Millennium Magic
THE RFL have again taken the decision to close the Millennium Stadium roof for Millennium Magic weekend.
Even though there was glorious sunshine during the inaugural Millennium Magic weekend in Cardiff last May, the roof was shut in a bid to enhance the atmosphere.
Closing the Millennium Stadium roof will safeguard the playing surface and prevent supporters from getting soaked in the event of heavy rain.
It will also prevent supporters sitting in certain positions suffering from sunstroke if the weather is good during the weekend.
A number of supporters did suffer in this way during the 2004 and 2005 Challenge Cup Finals.
In addition, the RFL has also issued a circular to all clubs informing them that the closure of the roof will create an increased level of moisture on the stadium's playing surface and all players have been advised to wear long studs in their boots.
An RFL spokesman said: "We believe the closure of the Millennium Stadium roof will significantly enhance the noise levels during the whole weekend.
"It will add tremendously to what will be a carnival atmosphere in Cardiff and increase supporters' enjoyment of the whole experience as well as protecting them from the elements."
