Hi

Many thanks for your e-mail regarding yesterday’s Carnegie Challenge Cup draw.

I can assure you that the draw was done live at 6.50pm on the BBC News Channel.

We too spotted the thread on the chat room that appeared at 12.30 yesterday on totalrl.com. Around this time my colleague, who was hosting the draw on the BBC, was driving down the M1 with the draw machine safely packed away in his boot!

It would appear on this occasion that someone has guessed the draw, which many people try to do each round. It has to be said that the less teams we have in the competition the more likely it is that people will guess the correct combinations. (I’d personally ask this man for the lottery numbers!)

Once again I can confirm 100 per cent that the draw was conducted live on the BBC News Channel yesterday at 6.50pm.

Many thanks

I would mail some of the book makers - and see if they want to take it up with the RFL.

If they did indeed notice the thread on an internet site - then only the RFL would be dumb enough to proceed with their preferred draw (the only change from what was predicted to make the Bulls/FC game at Odsal).

Let's not forget - this wasn't one of a flood of predictions; it was someone claiming to have insider information about what the draw would be.

From the quarter finals it is possible to see which teams are in which half of the draw - and it looks like the RFL is hoping for a "derby" final. Leeds vs Bradford or (by some miracle that we get past Leeds) Wigan vs stains. The fall back will almost certainly be a Leeds vs Stains final.

The whole thing stinks

Ah the magic of the cup. Who'd have thought that Leeds/Bradford, Wigan/Saints and Hull/Hull KR would be kept apart at this stage and Wigan given an away tie when it's well known we'd be unable to fulfil a home fixture at the JJB.

When did Leeds last play away in the cup against decent top 6 opposition?

It stinks. Depending on the outcome of the QF games you could then predict the semis before the draw. It's the same old fix every year and is making a farce of the competition and the sport.

I too sent an email and got the same reply... Obviously a lot of people got the same email response as the title is replied with [scanned] at the end.

Load of bollocks I say

Any statisticians work out the chances of getting the same draw?? I estimate 25/1

The plot thickens. Go to Totalrl on this link. It takes some wading through but worth reading

The consipracy is pretty convincing for me:

10:30 Monday - leak from RL leads to texts with the correct draw being sent out and being posted on various message boards. The odds of picking the correct draw randomly in advance are 1680/1.
18:30 - Wigan officials inform various fans at the Whitehaven game that Wigan are away to Leeds in the next round
18:50 - draw introduced by the BBC explicitly as live
18:55 - Martin Offiah talks about non-existant ties
9:00 Tuesday - phone call to RFL confirms that there is a leak and the draw was made early Monday morning.
12:00 - information from original leak source reveals that 4 draws were made and only the 4th was accepted by the BBC and RFL, and it is reported that The Sun and Mirror newspapers are interested in the story
12:00 - RFL allegdely sends email confirming early draw (not yet posted on any website)
15:00 - RFL sends email to all enquiries denying the rumours and stating that the draw was indeed live as stated.

Hmmmm.....
