France coach interested in Galpharm vacancy
Last updated: 3rd June 2008

[quote]France rugby union coach Dave Ellis is a surprise candidate for the vacancy at Huddersfield.

Ellis, a defensive coach with the French national side, has expressed an interest in succeeding the sacked Jon Sharp at the Galpharm Stadium.

The 51-year-old Yorkshireman, who coached at Paris St Germain during the first season of Super League in 1996, has carved out a big reputation in the 15-man-code but would welcome the chance to switch back to rugby league.

Ellis, who played for Castleford, Keighley, Doncaster and Batley as well as in Australia and France, cut his coaching teeth with French club Villeneuve after a stint at amateur club Hemel Hempstead. /quote]

Giants job interest huge - Davy
Huddersfield Giants chairman Ken Davy has said there has been a lot of interest in the club's vacant head coach job.

The Giants sacked Jon Sharp after five years in charge on Monday.

"Within an hour of the news Jon had left we had expressions of interest from several people from here and in Australia," Davy told BBC Radio Leeds.

"We shouldn't be amazed by the interest as we have a great infrastructure, squad and facilities."

Davy added: "That interest has continued over the last 36 hours."

Sharp's reign at the Galpharm Stadium came to an end after a run of just one win in seven Super League matches, the West Yorkshire club are now third from bottom of the table.

"It was an incredibly tough decision and one not taken lightly. It was a conversation with Jon I hoped we'd never have.

"We had to take a view on how the club could move forward more effectively. The club is bigger than any one man."
