Subject to his obtaining a work permit, Mitchell will join us for the rest of the current season and the next two. The Tigers are delighted to have been able to bring in a player with his top-flight experience and he will be a welcome addition to our squad for the next two and a half years.
The 28-year-old has made over 100 appearances in the NRL in a senior career that started with the Melbourne Storm (2002-2003). He then moved to the North Queensland Cowboys (2004-2006) before switching to the Knights in 2007.
Mitchell was a first grade regular last year until a missing out on the latter stages of the season through injury. Fully fit, he returned to action this season in the Knights NSW Cup side and was included in the first grade 18 for the past weekends game.
A tough defender and strong attacker, Mitchell was selected for the Country of Origin side in 2006.
Work permit permitting, the Tigers are planning to bring Mitchell over to the UK as soon as possible and hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
Commenting on his new signing, Tigers boss Terry Matterson said: “I know Mitchell having coached him at Melbourne Storm and he will bring plenty to our squad. He is a big mobile forward with plenty of experience and I’m really pleased to have him on board. He is an aggressive forward but he also has plenty of skill and I’m looking forward to him joining up with us.â€
