The CFMEU Canberra Raiders have terminated the contract of Raiders halfback Todd Carney, following a meeting of the Raiders board today.

The board met with Carney and manager David Riolo to discuss a number of matters in regards to Carney's off-field behaviour, before coming to the decision to terminate Carney's contract.

Raiders CEO Don Furner said the board agonized over the decision, but unanimously felt that it was the best decision in the interest of the club going forward.

"The board met and discussed Todd with his manager and they were granted the request to put his case to the board, and regrettably the board after deliberation chose to terminate his contract today," Furner said.

"They felt they had given him enough chances and that he could continue no longer.
Heard that Salford had been "linked" with him! Wonder who else?

If you check my rumour thread, you will find that "according to the press in NZ and Australia" Wigan have "made an offer" and are "willing to offload" Tim Smith for next season to the NZ Warriors!

Bloody great, I wonder how Tim Smith feels when he reads this. No wonder we cannot get consistancy on the field, when players read articals like this off it. It will not give the lad any incentive to progress with Wigan, once again a moral destroyer. This kid has not even had chance to prove himself & he could be off.

Panic over.

In a way it is good to know the Warriors rate him.

Carney in trouble again

SACKED NRL star Todd Carney is being investigated by police over the smashing of a shop window in the southern New South Wales town of Goulburn.

Carney, who was recently deregistered from the NRL until 2010 after a string of alcohol-fuelled misdemeanours, was arrested by police at a Goulburn pub on Saturday night in relation to the alleged attack on the shop the previous morning.

Police say the Auburn Street mobile phone shop had its front window smashed at 4.30am (EST) last Friday.

The 22-year-old was released without charge, but police are still investigating the incident.

His arrest is the latest controversy for the Country Representative half-back.

In August, Carney had his $1.6 million, four-year deal with the Raiders torn up after he was ejected from a Goulburn club.

At the time he was suspended by the Raiders after a complaint that he had urinated on a person while drinking at a Canberra pub.

He has also been convicted of drink-driving offences, including an incident in 2007 where he and fellow former Raider Steve Irwin led police on a car chase through Canberra.

Carney has been forced to look to England to continue his playing career, recently signing a three-year deal with Super League club Huddersfield.

He this week flew to Rwanda, where he and NRL players Todd Payten, Justin Moore, Nathan Hindmarsh and Jarryd Hickey will help build an orphanage in the capital, Kigali.

Organised by former Raiders player Paul Osborne, the 10-day trip was seen as a way to turn around the troubled star's life.
