According to the NZ papers, Wigan are believed to in the process of releasing recent recruit Tim Smith, to allow him to join the NZ Warriors for next season. In return, Wigan are supposed to be in negotiations with another "sacked bad boy" Todd Carney!! :conf:
The Warriors, who ground a vital 16-12 win over the Broncos last night that put them on the bottom rung of the top eight, are contemplating a last stab at recruiting a top-class halfback for next season with a move for former Parramatta bad boy Tim Smith.

If I am correct, David Riolo is the manager for both Tim Smith AND Todd Carney!
the representative halfback is already being courted by English Super League clubs, with glamour side Wigan understood to be putting together a $400,000-a-year deal to snare the former Raider's signature.

I shudder every time I see the name Carney on here, as long as it is Todd though and not Brian it is ok. I like Tim Smith though and really hope he stays

Carney............ Smith was not sacked .
I would think a contract would be less than the 400oooo dollars quoted for the likes of Carney , seeing IL wants away from such big payments cant see it .

This has now been played down by Smiths agent saying he(smith) is ''happy at Wigan'' he also happens to be Carneys agent so looks like the NZW put this out to see if anything was on the cards .

This rumour wont go away.

Speculation continues "down under", that Wigan are to "offer a deal" to Todd Carney for next season in the next few weeks.
WIGAN chairman Ian Lenegan said his club would not hold Todd Carney's troubled history against him as speculation intensified that the disgraced Canberra half was bound for the UK next season.

Carney is being hawked around the English Super League after his contract was torn up by the Raiders and he was deregistered by the NRL for 2009 after a series of alcohol misdemeanours.

WIGAN five-eighth Trent Barrett is poised to return to Sydney to join Cronulla, so the New Zealand Warriors have an opening next season for a pivot.

"A player the calibre of Carney, you have to have an interest in him," Lenegan said.

"There is a touch of risk with players like that but at the same time Wigan's a good club and we've shown we can take care of them.

"I have high regard for Carney and we've shown we won't hold history against them. I never rule out any possibilities and Carney obviously has the capability of being a No6, and as you know, Trent Barrett is coming back at the end of this year."
