I must say that I love the game.
It has become an incredible spectacle over the super league era. Players are incredibly fit the game is fast and furious, even the rules have changed with popular opinion and consent.
So why oh why do the media allow idiots like Stevo to continually make not just a fool of himself but to demean and belittle the players who lay everything on the line for a days pay and our enjoyment.
Players don’t give away silly penalties, penalties are usually conceded in the heat of the moment, the passion the pressure all conspire to make all of us at times do irrational or emotional things which very often are out of character.
So many things these days bother me when watching superleague on Sky and mostly they are the inane comments made by Stevo. “Flopping, laying on, that should be a penalty, what ever happened to the grapple tackle, can’t be a try I’d put my mortgage on it, He’s not standing square, that’s a high tackle (unless of course it was done by a Saints player then it across the chest)” for goodness sake let the game tell the story why doesn’t he keep his stupid mouth shut? I just can’t believe he played the game or has he just been PCd by the media. It is wonderful though when the likes of Clarky or Noble even Jonny Kear put him in his place by pointing out the most obvious facts which he clearly can’t see. There would be nobody left on the pitch if all the misdemeanours were punished in the way he advocates.
Its good to see a player pole axed by a firm stiff outstretched arm when running through the defence.
Its exciting when it all kicks off after a player is given a facial .
You cant call a flop at the speed these guys play and the refs not smart enough to know the difference between a lazy attempt at getting up and a blatant delaying tactic.
Why is it that certain teams like the saints don’t have to play the ball where they are tackled and are allowed to make three or four metres on the ground.
Why is it the Keiran Cuningham attracts a penalty when he plays off the mark and runs into a defender and yet all other players doing the same thing are penalised.
Is there a rule that says when a player is tackled or is it just up to Stevo.

I met with Terry oconnor early in the year and he said that stevo is very good at what he does and that is to go out and be contreversial he is also well respected by the crew and other members of the sky team

Trust me he is a very decent person off the field and puts a hell of a lot of time in promoting our game and he wont hear a wrong word said about the game

I'd agree with that, and in my opinion I'd rather listen to his over-the-top nonsense than the bland rubbish the BBC commentators serve up when they are doing the Challenge Cup, or even the likes of the football commentators. For a thread that's titled "there's not enough passion these days", I suspect Stevo's one of the most passionate people of all for our sport. The fact that he gets people talking about the game is very important, it stimulates interest that might not be there as much if we were just watching boring commentary. Far better Stevo than Phil Clarke, he's terrible. I have to say though that I've been impressed with Barry McDermott's comments when he's been on, not at all what I'd have expected from the guy from his playing days and I think Sky have made an excellent decision getting him onboard.
