i heard this awhile ago.. i even think it was stevo who said it,, it actually sounds like a good suggestion.. for a league to develop and rugby players get a decent wage.. we should have a rule brought in if the player is under 20 and has been brought through the clubs academy system they shouldn't count on the salary cap this way we develop British players making are league better also making a country team awesome! but keep in place the no more than 8 over sea players in the squad.
this isn't gospel what i belief in but i would like to see the impact it would have in such as a 2/3 year trial.

i think it would make game better, at least we would have a good pool of players to choose for national team.

They have a similar system in NL1 I believe?

i think they should up the salary cap to at least 2.8 million.

maybe even more bm as union is something like 4.1 and we need to stop players leaving league to go there.

now they have got rid of of relegation it kind of doesn't matter about one team running away with the season even tho the top 4 or 5 teams must be close money wise.. but if we did increase the cap that big straight away no doubt the teams will fill up the qouta maybe slow increase the salary cap just not cap the home grown players

This is one of the good suggestions that Maurice Lindsay made to the RL. He always pushed for the fact that home grown players under the age of 21 shouldn't count on the salary cap. Unfortunately he had lost so much crediblilty amongst the RL hierarchy that whatever he said was going to be kicked out.

The problem with changing the rules is that teams find ways to exploit it and it never really improves the situation.

If academy trained players didn't count on the salary caps then clubs would use the extra money to tempt more Aussies over and have a 1-13 of Aussies and 14-25 of non-salary cap players.
