Why do they do it? http://www.stuff.co.nz/4693396a10713.htmlNRL premiership betting is in turmoil with reports that police are investigating three Brisbane Broncos players over an alleged sexual assault at a Brisbane nightclub.
Bookmakers across Australia have suspended grand final betting and all betting involving the Broncos until police complete their investigations after a woman lodged a complaint last Saturday night.
Police, who set up a crime scene at the Brisbane inner-city nightclub on Saturday and seized security vision, are continuing their investigations which could go on for a few days.
Lasseters betting manager Gerard Daffy said with all the rumours floating around all premiership betting would be suspended until investigations were completed.
"If the Broncos were to lose any players at all, particularly key players, their hopes go out the gate," he said.

Named and shamed :exc:THREE high-profile Brisbane Broncos players are at the centre of a police investigation into an alleged sex scandal that has thrown the NRL finals series into chaos.
Broncos and Queensland State of Origin stars Karmichael Hunt, Darius Boyd and Sam Thaiday were allegedly named by a 24-year-old woman in a sexual assault complaint made to police on Saturday night.
The three were allegedly engaged in sexual acts with the woman in the toilet of a Brisbane nightclub and she complained to police after one of the players allegedly began filming with a mobile phone.
The revelations sent shockwaves through the NRL yesterday, with betting on the finals series suspended while police sifted through the allegations.
The sordid antics allegedly occurred in the toilet of the Alhambra Lounge nightclub in Fortitude Valley after Broncos players embarked on a drinking session to celebrate their victory over the Sydney Roosters the previous night.
Sources told The Daily Telegraph the three engaged in oral sex with a woman in the men's toilets of the Alhambra Lounge after a day of drinking at the Story Bridge Hotel. Two of the players are then alleged to have had sexual intercourse with the woman while the third recorded the acts on a mobile phone camera.
Police said they received a complaint from the woman on Saturday night which was followed up on Sunday with a written statement from the woman alleging she had been raped.
Detective acting Superintendent Tony Duncan said police were "trying to piece together the whole circumstances" surrounding the incident.
Broncos chief executive Bruno Cullen confirmed three of his players had been interviewed by police yesterday.
"As soon as the Broncos were made aware of the allegations, an internal investigation team was formed," he said.
The NRL had been on track for a bumper second finals weekend, kicking off with the Broncos' showdown with title favourites Melbourne on Saturday night.
Police are understood to be angry that details of the investigation were leaked.

that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Aussie game in turmoil.......
I might be being a bit controversial here, but is the accuser a melbourne fan? good way to disrupt a team before a big match. i say this as this kind of incident has happened numerous times in oz / nz- on the nz rl centenary tour last yr there was an incident of this nature, england ru down under last year there was a similar incident...all of which seem to have come to nothing.
i could be wrong and this could have happened- so i will apologise in advance- but i would bet it amounts to nothing.

Lockyer owns up to CCTV tackle
7:35PM Saturday Sep 20, 2008
Brisbane Broncos captain Darren Lockyer has admitted to tackling a bar manager after initially denying it was him captured on CCTV footage.
Lockyer apologised after new footage was aired last night that appeared to show him grabbing a bar manager who'd approached players about taking drinks onto the footpath on a night out earlier this month.
"(It) proves that I was the person that made the tackle on the manager there," Lockyer told Fairfax Radio.
The gun playmaker said he was unable to remember the moment where he is seen in the footage to be lifting the bar manager.
"If that's the case, you know my intentions wouldn't have been to be intimidating ... if I offended anyone I apologise."
His comments came after Lockyer earlier this week said that he had seen footage of the incident and didn't believe it was him.
Throughout the week Lockyer had the support of his club, while coach Wayne Bennett yesterday launched a blistering attack on the media for reporting the incident.
"It showed the worst side of journalism," he said.
"There was a lot of muck-raking going on.
"I'm not the keeper of your (the media's) ethics but I think any fair-minded person would say that."
It will be interesting to see how the Broncos react to Lockyer's backflip with the NRL club playing reigning premiers Melbourne in an elimination final at Suncorp Stadium tonight.
