Graphics will be the same as in Rugby League 2 as will the game play with a few minor modifications. The things that have been improved are:
- AI defensive patterns
- The advantage rule
- Side-line awareness
- AI marking at the play the ball
- AI aggression on chasing 40/20 attempts
- The ability to slide the defence left/right or compact it in the middle
- Interchange limit for the NRL changed from 12 to 10
- Penalty taps now taken on the 20 metre line
- Dodge using the using the right analogue stick.
- Rep selection to pick better players
- Removed Anti Tampering Deadline
- Changed NRL Franchise Salary Cap
- World Cup playable during Franchise Mode
- New franchise emails and player negotiation messages
- Reduced injuries over summer period between seasons
- Replaced Tri-nations with Four Nations
- Changed City v Country and State of Origin sponsor
- Updated Super League field markings
- Added specific new World Cup commentary
- Some additional commentary recorded
- Home crowd booing
- New front end menu and try celebration music
- World Cup and Competition modes now have separate save file files
- Added Star Player Icon for Franchise Mode
- Player names now displayed in defense mode
- Added an injury and interchange cut-scene

The playstation 2 is technically still the most popular console. They would have to make a whole new game if it was to be put on the next generation consoles which would take time and money and at the moment they won't make much money back because not that many rugby league fans have PS3s or Xbox 360s yet.
