i was watching Sky Sports News yesterday and saw highlights from a Northampton Rugby Union Match and it showed Chris Ashton scoring.

So my question is do you think Rugby League Clubs should be allowed to break the salary cap to keep a player?

The reason i ask this is because in the past players have switched codes because Rugby Union offer more money. if you cast your mind back Ashton was offerd twice what he would have got at wigan but Wigan were prepared to offer that but would have gone over the salary cap.

REMEMBER: i am not saying NO salary cap at all but it shouldn't count when a deal is with a diffrent sport

If RU were taking RL players left right and centre then I think the RFL would have to bring in some rule that excluded or reduced young British players from the cap.

Recently the RU said they would stop signing RL players because not many were making the grade but I think they will come poaching again.

If a team broke the salary cap to keep a British player then they would have to be punished for it and then I guess it would be whether the player is worth the punishment. Keeping hold of a British player cannot be an excuse for breaking the cap.

Although I doubt anyone would argue that there should be some sort of exemption from the salary cap for club produced/trained home players, irrespective of whether a rugby union club came poaching or not.
