The news of the club's cost-cutting comes amid speculation winger Amos Roberts was about to walk out of the club to take up a four-year deal with UK Super League powerhouse Wigan. While Roberts categorically denied yesterday that he was leaving, the Herald has been told the club is about to face salary cap pressure and might be looking to move on players.
Fuelling those suspicions is that a Roosters official fronted Roberts and asked him if he had signed with Wigan. Roberts has been courted by the UK club in the past. There were also suggestions yesterday that the Roosters were poised to sign Souths hooker Issac Luke, although that was denied by both camps yesterday.
"I haven't signed anything, I'm not too sure what's going on," Roberts said.

Re: Amos Roberts
I would class him as an enigma and somebody who you feel has it but does not always do so consistently. He emerged as a youngsterand scored some fine tries and he still does but he also goes missing in games too. So you get 1 brilliant game followed by a few average or worse. He may be suited to SL better than the NRL.Reevezie 2.0.0.8 wrote:Right you seen him play, i dont really know him......cook123 wrote:Yeah i was referring to the quote about amos roberts not being fast enough... he would run rings round calderwood!
Re: Amos Roberts
If we sign Roberts that is our quota full for next season.
That means no overseas prop forward and there are none good enough available in the UK.
If we sign Roberts you have to question the logic of getting rid of a UK player in Calders and using the one remaining quota spot for a winger when we could do with a real tough nut prop. Even if Calders wasn't wanted by Noble promoting Ainscough would have left us with the quota spot free.
It's also a bit odd that one week were are supposed to bidding for a prop (Wiki) and next supposedly a winger. Is there a recruitment policy or do we just chase whoever becomes available?
