Do officials know what foul play is?
Do officials know what foul play is?
Just watched the highlights of Huddersfield v Cats and the 'hit' on Ryles. Moore tackles Ryles low and Griffin comes in with a shoulder charge. A challenge that connected with Ryles head and nothing else. Ryles was unable to stand up afterwards and was clearly concussed yet the officials during the match and post match did not even blink. The media even praised the challenge

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

It was Hewer Josie. He has turned down a full time spot because he has a good job at Sellafield.

I think any incident where a player is concussed or suffers damage to the head should be scrutinised closely.

It wasn't even looked at by the rfl when Demetriou took off Feka's head, it lifted him up off the floor it was that strong of a hit, the big man just got up, but it was still a high shot and on someone else may have decapitated them :doz:cpwigan wrote:I think any incident where a player is concussed or suffers damage to the head should be scrutinised closely.

i Know what you mean, although to be fair to Demetriou, it was more of a grab than a swinging arm. I don't think there was much, if any, intent there.josie andrews wrote:It wasn't even looked at by the rfl when Demetriou took off Feka's head, it lifted him up off the floor it was that strong of a hit, the big man just got up, but it was still a high shot and on someone else may have decapitated them :doz:cpwigan wrote:I think any incident where a player is concussed or suffers damage to the head should be scrutinised closely.

Looked like a good hit in normal time didn't it, hence the praise. The scrutiny from Sky (or Canal+) showed that the tackle from Moore brought him down slightly, a shoulder to shoulder challenge turned into shoulder to shoulder and head. Extremely difficult to spot in real time, no malice.cpwigan wrote:Just watched the highlights of Huddersfield v Cats and the 'hit' on Ryles. Rob Rob Rob arghhh I wish I could get you and all the officials locked in a room for a weekend and teach you what foul play is.robjoenz wrote:Looked like a good hit in normal time didn't it, hence the praise. It was not a shoulder charge which by and large should be done sideways on. It was a forearm smash DIRECT to the face. It could have led to a broken jaw/cheekbone. You guys need biology lessons! Moore had tackled Ryles before any contact.
Forget malice / intent. That is not an officials job. Nobody can determine intent anyway. Not even a judiciary.

Catalans Dragons suffer Ryles blow ahead of Warrington Wolves clash
CATALANS Dragons' new powerhouse forward Jason Ryles will not figure against Warrington Wolves at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday night.
The former Aussie Test prop made his debut in the Dragons' 30-8 home defeat to Huddersfield Giants at the weekend but the media team in Perpignan have revealed that Ryles has been ruled out for three weeks with a shoulder injury.
Ryles was brought in as a replacement for 2008 enforcer Alex Chan.
And with explosive second rower Sébastien Raguin being ruled out for the season, Dragons' pack will be a little more lightweight than new coach Kevin Walters would have liked to face Morley, Rauhihi, Carvell, Westwood, Wood, the Andersons and co on Saturday night.
