moving off the mark at the play the ball
moving off the mark at the play the ball
how far does a tackled player have to move off the mark forwards before being penilsed,i have noticed leeds and saints doing it alot sometimes gaining three yards or more,so over a set of tackles(not including the last tackle) they are gaining up to 15 extra yards?
English by birth. Wigan by the grace of God.

Rob will know the rule.
I have seen it argued that if the referee marks out his 10 and the tackled player then moves forward off the mark all he is doing is making the 10 shorter and actually penalising his own team.
A problem last season in oth the NRL and SL was the tackled player moving off the mark sideays and giving the illusion that the markers were not square thereby often resulting in the referee awarding a penalty.

You do reduce the space for your hooker and 7 to play with. Need to be aware (like cpwigan said) that markers are then not square through no fault of their own. It's about common sense, managing it and not penalising when you don't have to.cpwigan wrote:Rob will know the rule.

It's not just other teams; Fielden does it a lot too (on those occasions when he doesn't drop the ball).
