heard an interesting one today, may be tosh but here we go. Got told that currently ainscough doesn't count on the cap but if he plays a few more 1st team games he will count on the cap and we can't afford for that to happen. Can anybody shed any light on this?

It wouldn't surprise me, but if that's the case, we need to make more room under the cap by sending some more out on loan.

The Gleeson signing must have pushed us pretty close to the limit, I guess, but there quite a few 1st team squad members who are unlikely to get a game: Pryce, Flanagan, Thornley, Tuson, Farrell, Davies; and they'd benefit more from 1st team rugby somewhere else (even in a lower division) rather than reserve grade.

He's on very little money. It has been a rumour circulating but never believed it. Anyhow, we cheat and give the players cabbage

There could be something in his contract whereby he gets an increase if he plays x number of games, though.

And even a cabbage has a heart...

I heard if he plays more than ten first team games they would have to re-new his contract and add him to the salary cap and it would put us over. could be rubbish, hope so.

one for CP.. been going the reserve games this season not been one against saints yet do you think there will be a good crowd friday??

This could be very true, first tier of the salary cap is for the 25 player registered before the start of season.

The first tier player wages for the year are calculated and subtracted from total salary cap to give the remaining salary cap space.

Second tier players are those who are not in the original 25 named in the squad but who play matches for the team. There wages are added to the salary cap for each game they play in the first team.

As Shaun Ainscough squad number is 28 it is reasonable to assume he was not in the original 25 man squad.

Thought IL at one of the forums stated that £50k is worked into the cap to accomadate these players outside of the squad.

There probably is money set away to cover players not in the 25 man squad just incase of injuries etc.

Ainscough has probably need dropped for 'performance' reason rather than anything to do with the salary cap but for each match he plays it adds to the salary cap.

The signing for Martin Gleeson could have limited the available money reducing the number of games Ainscough can play but if that is the case it was rather stupid on Wigans part although Wigan could loan some players from the 25 man squad out and there have been rumours of Pryce or O'Carroll going out on loan.
