Four Corners: The Code Of Silence
Four Corners: The Code Of Silence
I recommend all League fans try to watch this programme. Quite frankly it left me sick to the pits of my stomach. The treatment of a young student and the young girl with the Cronulla players / Matthew Johns was sickening. Matthew Johns can say what he wants but it is sad to know he was once associated with Wigan RLFC.

Is it online anywhere, Allan? I've tried the abc site and it's for Australian viewers only.cpwigan wrote: I recommend all League fans try to watch this programme. Re: Four Corners: The Code Of Silence
It raises serious question re players conduct etc. Their reaction to the education lecture was embarassing whilst sending the txts that they do to somebody like Charmyne Palavi makes you question their sanity. Charmyne should be banned from Facebook. Matthew John's reaction beggars belief. He is far more distressed by being found out and the impact upon his own wife. A 30 year old bloke indulging in a 2 hour 'abuse' of a 19 year old teenager deserves everything he gets IMO. Yes she gave her consent of a fashion but what took place was vile.
Re: Four Corners: The Code Of Silence
I worry about Johns. Every player in that room was guuilty of abuse. The fact that Johns stayed throughout the 2 hours makes him a sick individual.I did not commit an act of abuse to that woman," said the rugby league identity Matthew Johns. "I am guilty of infidelity to my wife and absolute stupidity."
Re: Four Corners: The Code Of Silence
i think that behaviour of the players is shocking, they are grown men and some of these girls that they are going with are only 17/18 years old, and should know that there is a very good chance that it will go to the press eventually. especially when they are dealing with palavi, she seems to make a living off this. palavi should know better to encourage and give details of the players as she knows what could happen.
the education part was embarressing as they need to change there perception of these events, it will take years to change the culture and perception of the players but at least there are attempts the culture of the players.

Very good point Stu re Palavi. She was IMO no better than a madam at a brothel. Those 'women' sat with her were far younger than she is and whilst she matbe to and willing to do X, Y, Z those younger women, teenagers may get in far too deep.
Re: Four Corners: The Code Of Silence
I'm probably in the minority here, but I thought the programme was poorly put together, muddled, and showed the presenter's obvious bias against "unusual" sexual practices (including her embarrassment when shown those phone pix).cpwigan wrote:Very good point Stu re Palavi. They made far too much of one single issue, while ignoring many others, glossed over the fact that most of the girls quite clearly knew what they were getting into, yet completely ignored all the more serious (in my view) recent cases of non-sexual assault on women, such as the Bird, Latu & Cherrington cases.
Re: Four Corners: The Code Of Silence
i agree that the presenter was using bias geoffN and sensatioalising certain areas but all media do that, i feel these women are very young and naive and are being encouraged by certain other people to do this. therefore need educating/socialised to not activly looking for this. also the players should know how the media works and not put themselves in this position in the first place.GeoffN wrote:I'm probably in the minority here, but I thought the programme was poorly put together, muddled, and showed the presenter's obvious bias against "unusual" sexual practices (including her embarrassment when shown those phone pix).cpwigan wrote:Very good point Stu re Palavi. its an embarressing act and bringing the game into disrepute imo
Re: Four Corners: The Code Of Silence
The Education Section though Geoff exposed RL players IMO and that section was not sensationalised etc. I personally think the 2 young women were victims. The NRL players and women like Charmyne Palavi are what is wrong with society today.
