MAJOR CHANGES

I think it is widely accepted that POTENTIALLY we have the best group of young players coming through the junior ranks than we have had for some time. It is vital that for the future success and stability of the club that we hold on to as many of these players as possible,
While I accept that you cannot keep them all for whatever reason i.e.the Briscoe/Radlinski situation, it would be criminal to allow other clubs to become strong on the back of our production line i.e.Huddersfield.To deny these lads a crack at first team level because average players are currently playing in their position would be woefully wrong, and only a radical proposal for change is going to help to alter this scenario.
What I propose is a major clearout to open up positions for these young players to come through as follows;
For 2010 season,
BACKS, release Smith,Phelps, Goulding (as part of a possible Myler deal) and possibly Price.
Roberts to full back Ainscough on the wing,Carmont 1 more season but rested for several games allowing the likes of Thornley and Flannagan and Veivers a game, this would give these guys experience for 2011 when we should release George.
FORWARDS, release Bailey, Hansen (are either of these 2 as good now as Joel, Mossop, and Farell), Coley and Riddell if possible,and try to fix up loan deals for O Carroll and Ben Davies on an alternate month to month basis for the full season then one of the two is at the club at any time to provide cover. 2011 release Fielden.
Releasing 7 or 8 players for 2010 and a further 2 in 2011 would free up a lot of salary cap money. It is then vital that we only replace these guys with our own young players plus 2 or 3 absolute TOP QUALITY replacements, this would open up five genuine squad places to allow these lads to progress and to make these guys into even better players, and more importantly keep them here.
This is not a short term plan, however, I feel that some of the guys in the reserves are probably as good already as the average guys being released but, I would go as far as to say that their attitude is better, and with a couple of quality signings we would probably be a better side in 2010 than 2009, with some of these young guys getting a regular taste of first team action.
LETS STOP WIGAN MAKING OTHER SUPER LEAGUE SIDES STRONG AT OUR EXPENSE.
