Who's our quickest over 90 metres? I'd back Ainsy over a shorter distance, but not for that far.A sprint challenge to find the fastest man in rugby league is to take place at the Carnegie Floodlit Nines at Headingley on August 26.
The competitors will race against each other in full playing kit over a 90-metre course.
Warrington winger Kevin Penny, who is currently on loan to Widnes, has been made the 2-1 favourite by the bookies, following by Scott Donald (Leeds), Dave Halley (Bradford) and Peter Fox (Hull KR).

Not over 90 metres, I don't think. He's better for short bursts - 40m, say.turf wrote:I would as well GeoffN. I'd back him all the way.GeoffN wrote:http://www.sportinglife.com/rugbyleague ... print.html

Re: Do we have a sprinter?
Ainsy is not fast at all over 100 metres. His best distance would be 20-25 metres. Nick Stanton was the quickest player in the club last season.
I have not seen any academy / treserves that look like sprinters so that leaves Roberts, Phelps and Richards I guess.

Re: Do we have a sprinter?
Roberts??? Has he ever run that far in his life?
Gareth Thomas before his first game: "You wanna spend 10 mins getting smashed up by these guys..Big dudes here.."

Re: Do we have a sprinter?
Richards is an odd one because I agree with you Pedro. He looks very average over 0-30 metres but I daresay with his long legs he gets faster and faster as the distance increases to 100m.

Re: Do we have a sprinter?
Maybe Phelps would push Ainsy over the full 90M, he has been a winger down under.GeoffN wrote:Not over 90 metres, I don't think. He's better for short bursts - 40m, say.turf wrote:I would as well GeoffN. I'd back him all the way.GeoffN wrote:http://www.sportinglife.com/rugbyleague ... print.html

Heard from home that Hull FC have a young kid, (reserves/accademy) supposedly as fast as Martin Offiah was in his prime.
Dont have any more details than that, maybe someone else on here knows.

http://www.wigantoday.net/warriors/Glee ... jp#4117662Meanwhile, Wigan winger Amos Roberts is in line to take on Super League's top speedsters for the title of rugby league's fastest man.
The jet-heeled Aussie has been put forward to race against other fliers
including Kevin Penny (Warrington), Scott Donald (Leeds), Dave Halley
(Bradford) and Peter Fox (Hull KR).
The 90m sprint challenge will be held at Headingley, Leeds, during the floodlit nines event being staged on August 26.
Roberts, who joined Wigan this year from Sydney Roosters, is 12/1 to win with bookies Totesport, well behind Penny (2/1) and Donald (4/1).
