no not the talent show but i was wondering with the buzz around the town for the coming season and the future of the club i thought i would go into the past and ask who was your Idol growing up. if it was a wigan player, soccer player, boxing etc
mine was Lammy when i started going to wigan matches Lammy had just signed and if there was a better player in the past decade i have yet to see him because Lammy was world-class.

Shaun Edwards for me.
His sidestep, attitude on the pitch, Captaincy and all round demenour made him my Wigan Idol.
Fond memories of him nodding to the crowd whenever he scored under the sticks and his face when he raised the 1988 Challenge Cup.
I can only hope that he one day becomes our Head Coach.

Offiah, Robinson, Farrell and Radlinski.
Offiah's try at wembley in 1994 made him my first rugby league idol, and the rest followed.

Mine was Gary Connelly the way he tackled the tries he saved and the way he followed Paul newlove from saints around the field was a joy to watch.

Martin Offiah - groing up at the age where you understood what was happening and seeing this guy home and away scoring for fun, it's an obvious choice for an idol. Like Mr Stu said, I can still see Offiah curving round at Wembley in '94 sat in Block A... sheer magic for a 9 year old!
If I was older and Offish didnt come i'd probably have gone for Edwards or Hanley.
Football - Denis Bergkamp
F1 - Michael Schumacher (shhhhhhhhhhhhhh - went Silverstone and nearly cried when Hakkinen beat him... ruined my day)
Ski Jumping (seriously) - Andreas Goldberger
Athletics - Jonathon Edwards (did a lot of jumping when younger)

Ellery Hanley.
He was the player who stole me away from football. He was quite simply a magnificent player with amazing all round skills and ability. This, together with his unshakeable self belief and arrogance, made opposition players terrified of him. The famous side stepping try at Wembley will live in my memory forever.
THANK YOU BIG MAN, you were the best ever,
