Corner flags could be taken out of play in rugby league matches if a proposal by Australia is agreed by the International Federation next month.
The Australia RL board have tabled an amendment to the laws of the game for the International Federation meeting in Melbourne on May 6 which would mean the corner post no longer being included in the definition of the field of play.
If passed, the amendment could be introduced into the international game in time for the end-of-season Four Nations series Down Under.
What a strange idea. What would be the point? It would certainly make it harder for tj's to judge where a kick went over the touchline, and I don't see any plus points to it.
its basically changing the rule to the same as it is in rugby union nowadays - keep the flags in but the aren't considered as part of the paly so the touchline isn't extended vertically for a couple of metres in only 6-8 inches of the pitch. i think it makes sense as it makes try scoring theoretically slightly easier, and we all want to see more tries.
