Gleeson, lack of professionalism, non/unfair reaction by fans !!!

Martin Gleeson has let down Wigan RLFC, his team mates and it's fans in the last month. What staggers me is how he escapes scot free when others would have been put in the stocks and then hung for less. Imagine Ainscough (Dave O's case is proven IMO by the way fans have reacted differently to Gleeson than Ainscough. Imagine Pryce, Goulding, Phelps. IMAGINE if anybody else had;

1) Been out drinking for 7 consecutive Nights after the Widnes victory, turned up to training hungover, continued to annoy Madge and Waney that he had to be dropped and disciplined

2). A Crusaders players ran straight through a so called tackle for a try

3). A Leeds players runs through him when he couldn't even be bothered to move up in line with his team mates.

4). Has a past record for miscreant / unprofessionalism. Tony Smith wanted shut from day 1 when he took over at Wire

The rumour I have heard is that Wigan have talked re a swop with Kevin Brown.

I cannot believe fans have notr slated Gleeson, especially how the often react to others. Dave O will have a field day with the double standards.

He's letting everybody down Alex. Very sad. The reaction of other fans when they criticise other players but not Gleeson is baffling. He is a big money earner, an xperienced player and should be a team leader NOT a player the club warn young players to steer clear of.

but why would the club want to get rid off a piss head while they are standing by a drug user, sounds a bit like double standards to me like

Well the double standards are there for all to see. One of my main beefs over comments about Ainscough is how his faults are exaggerated e.g. his 3 match ban means to some he has a serious ingrained disciplinary problem and has always been a bad lad whether they know that to be the case or not.

As to Gleeson I was surprised when we signed him as I thought he was getting on a bit but playing-wise he slowly won me over to the extent this season I thought he was a very important member of the side. This was especially obvious in the Quins game where Bailey was a dire alternative. Gleeson seemed to have bought into the Madge ethos and looked a better player for us than for Wire.

Unfortunately since Quins something has changed and it's as if he can't keep up the good work any longer. He was not good v the Crusaders and given his defence was the problem this was not a good sign. For it to be bad again for the try today is a serious problem for the side. If he can't get back with the program he will be dropped and we really have a problem for the rest of the season.

If he has reverted to his old ways will he get as bad a press as Ainscough? I doubt it because it seems only one player can occupy the "can do no right" podium and once on it they never come off until they leave. The rest of the team could be out on the pop for a week and it would not make any difference to that so Gleeson is safe IMO.

Dave

For one thing, because being a piss-head is clearly affecting his game, which is really all we, as fans, should be bothered about.

The last time I looked GH has had his contract cancelled and lost a contract worth 200K + over 2 seasons. Looks like Gleeson is getting it easy don't you think Medlocke?

I totally agree with everything you have said CP,and although i am not a Kevin Brown fan i would take the swap tomorrow,Gleeson has been trouble everywhere he has been and imo should be off loaded asap.

Maybe he wasnt slated as people dont have proof he done this.
If a professional player has been proven to binge drink like this, he deserves to be kicked out of Wigan Warriors RLFC as far as I am concerned.

He was poor yesterday and has been for the last few matches. I would hope that MM will drop him after his performance yesterday and give Goulding a go at centre alongside Roberts.

I don't really see what Goulding did to deserve missing out; he certainly hasn't been any worse than Gleeson has been recently

I pointed out on the match thread that whilst people where looking elsewhere to point the finger, everyone was ignoring the fact that Gleesons' head was already celebrating in the bar when Smith ran through him. Imagine the reaction if this had been Marsh or Goulding in the centres.

Mossop was dropped earlier in the season for poor tackling technique. It will be interesting to see what happens next week.
