History question
When did the award for a try move from 3 points to 4?

Re: History question
Sometime in the early 80s ?
Re: History question
Just checked wiki
In rugby league, a try is worth four points, having been this case since 1983. Before that, a try was worth three points.

Re: History question
No KW and it is bugging me because it is an often used quiz question IIRC it was either a Wigan player or somebody clled Frankie Feighan for Fulham.

Re: History question
Need the RL Yearbook 1983/84 for the fixture list's. Google is no help at all.

Re: History question
When I was setting quizzes, I was told that the 1st 4 point try was scored by Jeff Clare. Dennis Ramsdale, so I was told, was the first player to go in the Sin Bin.
Never used the questions because in both cases, I could never establish whether they held the records for RL in general, or just at Wigan!

Re: History question
Weren't all games on Sunday back then? Depending on how quickly he scored it, could well be the first ever!ancientnloyal wrote:Jeff Clare scored Wigan's first in that '83 season v salford. t'was a sunday game
