Wigan Warriors today unveil a special limited-edition shirt which will be worn in the upcoming Probiz World Club Challenge match against St George Illawarra Dragons on Sunday 27th February.
The shirt is predominantly black but featuring Cherry-and-White sleeves, the traditional Wigan colours. It proudly displays three gold stars across the chest and above the crest, each star representing a previous World Club Challenge victory by Wigan, plus the logo of new sponsor Applicado-FS.
A limited number of 1,500 replica shirts have been manufactured and will be available through the Warriors World store. The shirts are priced at £45.99 for adults (S-5XL) and £35.99 for juniors (XSB-Yth) and are now available to pre-order with stock due in store at the beginning of February.
Warriors Marketing Director, Simon Collinson, commented:
“We are pleased to unveil this new shirt to commemorate this huge event, Wigan’s first World Final since 1994. We are really proud of Wigan’s history in the competition and wanted to do something special to demonstrate this. The Wigan shirt design also allows The Dragons to play in their traditional colours.”
Head Coach, Michael Maguire, added:
“We are delighted with this special shirt. The players are focussed on the start of the Super League season but we know how important this game is to our supporters, to the people of Wigan and to Super League. I’m sure that the boys will take great pride in wearing a shirt that represents those Wigan players who have previously become World Champions.”
As a special gesture, the Wigan Club will auction the match shirts following the event with all proceeds going to help the victims of the recent floods in Queensland, Australia.
Warriors’ star and Australian International Second Row Forward Ryan Hoffman explained:
“As a group of players, many of whom have family and / or friends back in Australia, we were all saddened to see the devastating effects of the Queensland floods recently. Some people have died in the floods and others are still missing whilst many communities have been destroyed and thousands of families have lost everything.
“It makes us all realise how lucky we are and we really wanted to instigate something to help out. Playing in a World event and wearing this special kit is a privilege but giving up our jerseys to raise funds for those affected back home will allow us to change the lives of some of those people most affected by this natural disaster.”
The replica shirts are now available to pre-order from Warriors World in the Grand Arcade and online at www.wiganwarriors.com. Details of the online auction will be published after the World Club Challenge game.
Please note:
Unfortunately the replica shirts will not be available in infant or women's sizes due to the significant additional costs of manufacturing small quantities.
The online auction of shirts will take place on the Wigan Warriors eBay site.
