Why does the town of Warrington not produce any RL talent?

Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

They've signed a few local lads from the junior clubs,Ben & Rhys Evans, Keith Holden, Ryan Duffy, Brad Brennan, Bradley Dwyer, Posh Josh are the ones that spring immediately to mind. Fair question though. They don't seem to have Wigan or Saints inclination to work these lads into the first team, rather preferring to splash the cash on 'big names'.

Even Richie Myler, the big name 'junior' they splashed out on doesn't seem to be a given for a first team spot when it comes to the big games!

Personally, I think the incentives / disincentives for 'heartland' clubs not producing players from their own SA should be far more important. As it stands, clubs can simply 'create' home grown players by signing them at 16-18 and magically they become products of club X.

I think as an incentive; a player from a heartland club's SA should incur a free from the salary cap % of their salary as an incentive to clubs in the heartland to develop their own SA players. As a disincentive; heartland clubs signing players from outside their own SA should have to pay a 'proper' not token amount to the SA / Amateur Club that they came from. Cumbria should receive far more for their effort. Likewise Oldham. Cumbria / Oldham wherever can then use that money to reinvest and make the sport of RL even more popular / better in those areas and RL as a whole WINS.

Very true Morph but do they actually identify with RL? or are many people from Warrington more interested in football. If so as a heartland area, Warrington is not offering RL very much. Little.

At least they've got a statue of Brian Bevan. Like to see something similar in Wigan.
