Gleeson Sacked?

I am surprised no one has commented already.....but the big question is: Has he been sacked? The chairman and coach both replied "No Comment" on radio last night after the Salford game.
If he has gone then why? Last week he was in paper about being blackmailed and threatened by a gang, then he got injured in WCC game and then rumours fly round he has been sacked?!?!?!
Anyone know anything? :conf:

I dunno if ya being sarcastic with your reply, but just incase, it is all over the web, sky sports news, newspapers....everywhere except the Wigan Warriors site. I hope it is not true, although he has his mad moments off-the-field, he was one of the driving forces that got us the win at Old Trafford last year. Let's hope they opt to educate, rather than throw him on scrapheap and leave him to self destruct like Terry Newton.

Totally different scenario to that of Terry and both should not be compared. The club have made no comment on the situation and as of yet we do not know if or why he was or was not sacked. Rumours abound in sport some stand on solid ground others unsubstansiated. I prefer to wait until the club does or does not confirm the rumour. Not a fan of Martin Gleesons life style myself but he is a damned good player when on top form. However, saying that the club will replace him with someone of equal stature or someone who in time will be just as good or better. In MM and IL I have faith and trust they will do the right thing. Under Mr Noble I would have said oh shit what do we do now!

I not comparing Tez and Gleeson, just saying that players should be given support from the clubs or the RFL. Especially late in a players career when they know that their playing days are over, they can end up relying on their addiction whether that be gambling, drink or drugs, which can lead to self destruction. Hock apparently has been given support behind the scenes by Wigan Warriors which is the approach I hope they adopt with Gleeson, as he needs help, as like you said on the pitch he is one of the best.

Jayzn. At the bottom of the page there is a link 'Active Topics'. Click on that and you'll be hard pressed to find a thread which doesn't mention Gleeson's departure!

its in Web Warriors I think rather than here in the rumour mill. I work with kids at school with all sorts of issues and over the time they are at school we do all we can to help and advise them. Some of them don't listen and either get kicked out of school or leave when they reach a certain age. They then cease to be our responsibility. If I had a penny for every person who has left, taken drugs, ended up homeless or whatever I'd be a rich man but after so long there comes a point where if people won't learn from their mistakes or accept help they have to go it alone. Gleeson's issues go much deeper than liking a drink but in the real world Wigan RL is a rugby club rather than a counselling service.

Kittwazzer - I added the link at bottom of the page. I set up this forum page to see if anyone knew anything beyond just the is he/isn't he rumours.
GPMartin - I know a club is a club and their job is to make money with their team, but I know plenty of jobs will try to help their employees if they have issues/addictions rather than just bin them and employ someone else. I just hope Wigan have exhausted all other avenues first before showing him the door - as to my knowledge this is his 2nd occassion of putting his job at risk.
I know that I for one would miss MG in the team. As he is one of the best centres in the game!

Well said :eusa2:
If I got sacked tomorrow I would get no support from my employer, nor would I expect it, and I certainly do not think Wigan RLFC should be any different.
