The way Joel pulled the Saints centre and winger out wide and then slipped a superb one handed pass inside to Charnley reminded me so much of the great Gene Miles, big call I know but I really do believe he has what it takes to be a great centre. I did comment on this when Gleeson went but I dont like saying I told you all so.

It was very good play but I still think he is a back rower. Nevertheless, if he plys centre he could do far worse than following Miles example and look to draw defender, take tackles and free the ball as he did on that occasion.

It's handy for him to get that versatility under his belt, especially given the fact that a certain Mr G Hock will be figuring to be getting his name on the team sheet after his ban finishes.

It's a fair point. I think bracketing Joel with GM is asking a bit much of anybody to live up to, but Miles himself played plenty of games in the second row - they're not that different roles really. I think Joel could be a great centre given a decent run in the position

I said when people taled of moving Joel to the centres that this would be a bad move, but on current form he is doing a great job there. Th pass back on the inside was superb, he made some great breaks also during the game.

When Joel was 17? He was taken on a GB Academy Tour to Aus and played at 6 with James Coyle at 7. GB won the tests. Joel certainly has a lot of skill. Even when Millward brought him in he was offloading for fun.
