Hull FC---Brett Seymour

Post by StarAndy »

HULL FC look set to win the race to sign New Zealand Warriors half-back Brett Seymour, the Mail understands.

The highly regarded 26-year-old, who can play scrum-half or stand-off, is being courted by Bradford Bulls, who want the Australian as part of their re-building plans.

However, Hull now seem certain to scupper that deal – and for less money than the Bulls are offering.

Having offered Seymour a contract, the Bulls were hopeful of securing his services, but an offer from Hull has turned his head.

It is understood the chance to join current team-mate Aaron Heremaia at Hull, plus the encouragement of former FC player Shaun Berrigan, has convinced Seymour his future lies at the KC and not Odsal.

A source, who has spoken to the player, has told the Mail Berrigan, now playing at the Warriors, has had a big role to play in Seymour's decision.

With Heremaia already signed, FC believe the duo will hit the ground running and are trying to get a deal finalised after agreeing terms.

The player has been no stranger to controversy during a colourful NRL career, often hitting the headlines more for his off-field antics than performances on the pitch.

Sacked by Brisbane Broncos for disciplinary reasons in 2007, he was then axed by Cronulla Sharks in 2009, following a series of alcohol-related incidents.

Now tee-total he has turned his life and form around at the Warriors.

The addition of another half-back, following the signings of Leigh's Jamie Ellis and Heremaia who can play in the role, will increase speculation regarding Sean Long and Richard Horne.

Sidelined with a dislocated shoulder, Long is currently unable to impress to earn a new deal.

However, the Mail understands Long may still have a future at Hull.

He is prepared to stay on at the club on a pay-as-you-play deal and Hull have not ruled out keeping him on board to work with both Ellis and Seymour.

Horne, meanwhile, is expected to open negotiations through his agent shortly to discuss extending his current deal, which is set to end this year, although no formal discussions have taken place.

Seymour's arrival would be Hull's third overseas signing for 2012, following Heremaia and full-back Wade McKinnon.

And with Mark O'Meley due to take up the option of his third year at the club and Sam Obst committed for one more year, Hull will have no further quota places for 2012.

However, Obst may be able to gain an exemption after playing in Super League since 2005, leaving the likes of Craig Fitzgibbon and Cameron Phelps still with a chance of staying.
