Craig Gower signs two-year Harlequins contract

Post by josie andrews »

Harlequins have signed dual-code international half-back Craig Gower on a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old is currently playing rugby union for French Top 14 side Bayonne and will link-up with Harlequins ahead of next season.

Gower has played for Australia in rugby league and represented Italy in the 15-man game.

He said: "I'm looking forward to the challenge of Super League and I'm also excited about London's future."

Gower should form a partnership with Quins' other new half-back signing Michael Witt at the Stoop.

He moved to France in 2008 after a career in Australia that, while marred by off-field problems, saw him win the 2003 Grand Final with Penrith and skipper the Kangaroos two years later.

He was courted by Salford at the end of 2004 but rejected a move to Super League with the Reds in favour of a new deal with the Panthers.

Quins coach Rob Powell said: "Craig is a world-class player and his signing shows the intention of the club to move forward in the next licence period.

"Having played for New South Wales and Australia and won Grand Finals he will add a new dimension to what we are able to achieve."

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Just what Quins need. Hopefully, he has calmed down since his younger days. He is old but they need eaders in key positions.
