Reserve and Academy Action

Post by josie andrews »

A reminder there is both Academy and Reserve action involving Wigan Warriors this weekend.

The Under 18's play their last game of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Co-operative Community Stadium, 2pm kick off against St Helens while the 20's play at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday morning as a curtain-raiser to the first team game.

The Warrington against Wigan game has a 10.15 kick off on Sunday with the first team game getting underway at 12.45pm.

Wigan Warriors Under 20's are top of the Valvoline Cup table, four points clear of Warrington and will be crowned League Winners whatever the result this weekend in the final round of the regular season.

The Play-Offs start the following weekend and this season the Play-Offs in the 20's mirror those of the first team with the top eight involved. This means Wigan (top) will be at home in week one to whoever finishes in 4th spot. Full details will be announced after this weekend's games.

U18s battered saints 46:12.

Much improved performances since they were bolstered by the U16s. Wiiliams and Hampshire ran the show from half-back based on a dominant performance from the pack. I was surprised how well our pack went as the saints pack had the appearance of having hit the gym heavily and looked much bigger, however they lacked the mobility.

Other stand out performances were from Greg Burke and our left centre (O'Donnel???).

When the 18s have Greg Burke in their line up they improve tenfold. The U16's add a lot too.

Greg Burke is a very good player, like watching him play :)

Hadn't got a team sheet, but thought the two half backs & as you rightly say the left centre had very good games :)

Williams is an outstanding prospect. Just up from the under 16's but plays with the head of a 20 year old. Crisp passer, good kicker, talks and organises the back line and great awareness. Early days but he's the next future star in the back line in my view.

Spot-on FW. He forms a deadly partnership with Hampshire. You will see further fast-tracking of these two players.

Williams and Hampshire are the future Wigan half back pairing and perhaps GB/England.

Both are already training with the first team squad. The U18's season is over but Wiliams and Hampshire will also continue with the U20's but can't play for them as they are too young.
The U20's lost at Wire today 29 - 10 I think was the score.
