HETHERINGTON WELCOMES WORLD CLUB CHALLENGE DECISION

Post by josie andrews »

Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington has welcomed the NRL's announcement that the 2012 World Club Challenge will be once again be staged in England and ruled out any chance of it going to Dubai as proposed by the Manly Chairman Scott Penn.

Hetherington revealed the Rhinos had urged the NRL and RFL to make a quick decision because of all the uncertainty surrounding the fixtures. He commented, "Clearly where and when we play affects all our pre-season preparations and we can now get on with making plans for pre season games and our training camp.

"To take the game to a neutral venue like Dubai should remain an aspiration for the NRL and RFL but this would require at least twelve months lead time.

"We were quite prepared to travel to Sydney and we have been contacted by many of our fans who wanted to go too, but we are also delighted to have the opportunity to win back the world title on home soil. I am sure the RFL will be investigating a number of possible venues and we look forward to further discussions," added Hetherington.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
