Make or break

Injury-hit Wigan Warriors prop Luke Davico is to undergo surgery that could make or break his rugby league career.
The Australian front row forward was in hospital today for an operation to repair the pectoral muscle he tore a week ago.
Davico, 31, admitted he was 'devastated' when he was
injured at the start of the pre-season friendly at Salford.
He suffered what is thought to be a very similar injury to the one he picked up playing for Canberra Raiders in August last year, a setback that sidelined him for the rest of the NRL season.
Davico took six months to recover, but lasted less than two minutes at The Willows before he felt the chest muscle tear again.
He said: "I knew straight away something had gone and that it must be very similar to the injury I picked up playing for Canberra last year.
"I'm hoping the surgeon can open me up and fix it.
"The MRI scan I had straight after the injury showed there is a tear, but hopefully it will not be in the same place.
"When I first did it I was devastated.
"It was gut-wrenching.
"But I have had a few days to sit down and think about it and now I'm determined to try and get it fixed and get back on to the pitch.
"I've had an awful lot of
encouragement and support from the wonderful people in this town, and I was especially touched by the fans I spoke to when I was watching the boys play London in the friendly at
Orrell on Sunday.
"But I'm in the hands of the
surgeon now so I'll know better in a couple of days.
"But the plan is to get it right, stay over here and see this thing through."
If the specialist can repair the injury, Davico will
probably need at least five months of rehabilitation
before he can play again.
This would take a large chunk out of the 2005 Super League season which kicks off in 10 days and could leave Warriors short-handed up front, especially if more injury problems emerge early in the new campaign.
It is believed Wigan officials will move to find a temporary replacement prop – possibly another overseas player – to provide cover and chairman Maurice Lindsay is already on the case.
So much for all the people (mostly on www.rlfans.com) who were saying the club had already decided to get rid. Let's hope the operation is successful, in the past players who miss out lots of games for Wigan with long-term injuries have usually come back with all guns blazing and have been absolute stars for us afterwards.

I'm not a bit concerned about his comment about him hoping it was a different part of the muscle he has torn. Obviously it would be worse for it to be a reoccuring injury but the guy will have torn his peck twice then which I would have thought would make him even more prone to injury?!

I hope he does manage a full recovery though and soon.
