He told us that on Friday!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

His book is on sale at the moment "From Hawera to Wigan" and he has a book signing at Waterstones this month but have forgotten the exact date

Very sad news. The club, if IL has anything about him, should throw a massive going away party at the stadium. GW was one of the most important signings the club has ever made, and the dominance of the 80's can be traced back directly to 1982 when Westy came over.

A great player, and a great man.

He picked me up in his taxi at Norwest station a couple of months since. He mentioned he is having a house built and his wife is travelling back early to supervise the move.

TBH I can't blame him. This Country is getting damned expensive to "live" in now

I remember him being a true gent to my late father when he went to the club having lost a couple of tickets down the back of the mantle piece! This was before he became coach and when he was involved with the Knights of Central Park.

He did a lot of work for the club behind the scenes back then and the club lost a great servant when inevitably he lost his coaching job (as all coaches eventually do).

I know the club can't employ every ex player or ex coach but I have always been surprised he wasn't offered something along the same lines as he had before he became coach, promoting the club and working in the back room somewhere.

He is going back to a nice place though and I can't blame him for that.

It is sad to see how westy been treated and allowed to fall away from the game, i wish him every success with his book and the best for his return to nz.
Josie i'm nearly sure the date of the signing at waterstones is the 26th nov.
