Salford's New Stadium

Post by southernpie »

Seeing as I live in Irlam, I popped along on Saturday to watch the first match at the new Stadium. Leigh running out winners 36-12.

Watching the traffic at the end, the M60 junction is a nightmare. I would advise on a Friday night anyone going from Wigan to come down the M6 get off at J21 and follow the A57. 15 mins walk before the Stadium on the A57 is a MAKRO cash and carry on the right, could be a good place to park or else just past the Makro traffic lights is a big layby on the left. Rumour is the company whose entrance is on the layby (cant remember the name) are going to open up for parking. Stadium parking is to be paid in advance £5 plus admin fee. Manchester City Airport is also on the left before the Stadium entrance and there will be official parking there.

If you look on the left panel of this site and 'ground guides' Salford needs updating. Why not send a PM to Mike with this info, also information coming off the ring road as many will come that way from the m61 or east lancs road. Will be a good help for those who use the sites ground guide page

Not exactly on the same subject.

I read somewhere that half of the stadium seating is in red and the other half is in blue, supposedly in respect of Sale planning on playing home games there in the future. I was under the impression this was solely Salford's ground - am I wrong?

You are correct about the seating it is half red and half light blue. It is currently Salford's own ground but there are still ongoing negotiations about Sale playing there in the future,

How close is the new stadium to the sewage works? It could get unpleasant on a warm summer evening if the wind is in the wrong direction.

There is one directly across the canal, but I believe it is being decommisioned, then there is one diagonally across the canal/motorway, I drive along the A57 to the M60 regularly and use the Urmston Retail Park quite a bit and only notice an odour  every now and again.
