Warriors Select Defeat Scorpions

The class showed between South Wales Scorpions and a Wigan Warriors side containing a mix of Super League and under 19 squad squad members when the two teams clashed in a friendly on Sunday.
The Warriors side ran out 28-8 winners after making better use of their possession, coupled with their strong defence.
It was a good start to the game for the Warriors when after just 50 seconds, Shae Lyon Fraser ran in the first try for the hosts. Ryan Hampshire missed the kick.
Scorpions fought back and tried to make up for their early blip by looking for a try back straight away. A tricky Kayle Connor kick forced Joe Bullock into conceding a goal-line drop-out.
From the resulting set, another Connor kick into the opposite corner looked to create a try for Liam Watton, but the centre was forced into touch by a hoard from the Warriors back-line.
Then Joe Burke attempted to force his way over for a score, but was held up over the line.
Connor's next kick, this one a grubber, forced a second goal-line drop-out with the next winning Scorpions a scrum.
Finally, after over 10 minutes of solid pressure in their own last 20 metres, Wigan won a penalty to finally regain the ball, worked their way upfield and scored. It was Josh Rooney in the corner on 19 minutes and again Hampshire failed to convert.
Another period of intense Scorpions pressure followed, but again, they just couldn't perform a final act of heroics to get over the line.
And again, when Wigan got the ball back their pace showed and George Williams raced home for their third try on 36 minutes. Hampshire converted.
They weren't finished yet. From the kick-off, David Thompson ran down the wing for their fourth try, again converted by Hampshire and despite only having less than 40% of the possession, the home side went into half-time 20-0 up.
Wigan took 12 minutes of the second half to add to their score with Josh Rooney forcing his way over in the corner. Hampshire's kick was sliced wide but he made up for it minutes later by scoring his side's sixth try.
Connor Farrell was sinbinned for persistent fouling and Scorpions took advantage of the extra man straight away when Chris Leyshon scored in the corner. Connor missed with the conversion.
Dominic Crosby joined his team-mate in the bin for a similar offence but just after Farrell returned to the field, Scorpions scored their second try when Haydn Peacock set up Jack Pring. Connor's conversion attempt hit the wind again and swung wide.
Despite both sides aiming for a further score, 28-8 is how it remained and both coaches will look at this game as a good test of their respective squads.
