McIlorum Named Heritage Number 1,000

Post by josie andrews »

As Wigan Warriors celebrate their Heritage Day against Huddersfield Giants at the DW Stadium this Friday night, 8pm kick off, the Club can confirm that England International hooker Michael McIlorum was the 1,000th player to pull on the famous Cherry & White shirt.

Michael was made aware of this honour when he was presented with Heritage Number 1,000 on Tuesday at the Club's Training Ground at Orrell as Club Legend Billy Boston awarded the current squad their Heritage Numbers.

McIlorum has made over 150 appearances for the Warriors since making his debut against Harlequins in the Challenge Cup back in 2007 and has progressed through the Club's Academy set-up to become one of the first names on the Warriors team sheet.

Speaking about the news that his Heritage Number is 1,000, Michael told us,

"It was a shock and a real honour when it was announced I was the 1,000th player to represent this great Club. There have been some great names, some fantastic players and Rugby League legends who have played for this Club over the years and I am just the lucky one who has this milestone.

"It was fantastic to see Billy Boston on Tuesday and we all appreciated he took the time out to come up to Orrell to speak to all the boys."

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
