Can we be clear what Wanes tactics that we don't like are?

This could be wrong, but it seems to me there are several posters that don't like the tactics employed by Wane for the last couple of seasons. :D

However, from reading the comments it seems that there are two opinions of what those tactics are and it seems we can't be doing both.

Opinion 1: the ball is played too laterally to early in the tackle count and we have no go forward because of it. I think cpwigan seems to focus on this one a lot.

Opinion 2: the ball is just run straight up the middle all the time and we have no go forward because of it. This seems to be what DaveO is saying a lot.

Which one is what you think we are doing? Or are we doing something else.
Why is what we are doing bad?
What should we be doing?

I agree with CPwigan its moving the ball out-wide without forcing defenders to move inside to cover too soon. You can then defend that hole outwide all day long if you do not force a defender to come inside and leave space for Sam Tomkins to hit or a deft pass to a 2nd row. Liam Farrell is looking ordinary now because there are no gaps for him to hit.

The pack are not making enough go forward for the spaces to appear and for some reason we shift the ball out wide asap and teams are now looking for it. If Wane has another plan of attack it could really bugger teams up but without Sam Tomkins our attack is poor.

'Several posters' who have a lot to say about what is wrong, but it would appear only go to certain games or watch games on television.

My main issue is the lateral play, which better teams have shown some ability to defend, and it doesn't allow us to get any go forward or momentum in these big games. The other issue is the failure to treat games against better clubs with different tactics to games against London and Widnes etc.

There is nothing wrong with how Wigan play, now if you was a London fan or even a Saints fan than i would be worried about how we play

Perhaps Wane doesn't have a clue.

Any advice/stratergy from the fans should be welcomed and implemented.

To illustrate a point about how lateral we played I've picked some numbers out from the game on Friday.

Our 4 props: 30 carries (average 7.5 each)
Their 4 props: 46 (11.5 each)

Our 4 back rowers: 39 (9.75 each)
Their 4 back rowers: 44 (11 each)

Our centres: 27 (13.5 each)
Their centres: 19 (9.5 each)

Whilst Huddersfield's figures per player go down as play goes wider, ours go up.

Obviously this is a little bit reflected in defence.

Our props made 80 tackles between them (team leading 37 made by Mossop, only one missed to add to that, also 10 of the 37 were marker tackles - not putting the effort in now he's leaving obviously eh!?!?!? What a load of bull that is!).

Their props only made 48 total.

I don't think its a case of our props being tired out either from all the defending, because our average yard per carry were Mossop(7), Taylor(6), Dudson(6), Lauaki(4), theirs were Patrick(10), Crabtree(6), Faiumu(6), Kopczak(6). The one who made the least yards per carry for us was the one who made the least tackles too, and most were fairly similar for yards per carry, so it can't be that can it?

Agree with Rob W. Don't need a load of statistics to come to his conclusions.Yeah they were outplayed by a better team. That says more about them than us. WE LOST :exc: That doesn't make us a bad team for heavans sake( Don't know why I said that I'm not religous although the Army was my salvation...still got mi trunpet) :) But I digress. I'll bet the poster who said he would sit back and enjoy the posts following Mike's provocative question is in hysterics. We now have not only SW being pilloried but calls the for IL to sell the club :exc: I think SW and his team are experianced enough to know how to coach the players without any assistance from us.I'm off... just seen one fly over the cuckoo's nest. your a little divil :D
