Lockers Shortlisted for Man of Steel Award

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors loose forward Sean O'Loughlin, Huddersfield Giants half-back Danny Brough and Leeds Rhinos second row Jamie Peacock have today been confirmed as the three players shortlisted for the prestigious 2013 Man of Steel award.

The Man of Steel is the player who is deemed to have made the biggest impact on the season, and has been the sport's most prized individual accolade since its inception in 1977.

O'Loughlin is shortlisted after another outstanding season for the Warriors. His consistency is highlighted by being named in the last three consecutive Super League Dream Teams and the Wigan captain now has a chance of winning Rugby League's ultimate individual accolade.

Brough has enjoyed a fine season with the Giants, leading his side by example and guiding Huddersfield to a first League Leaders' Shield in 81 years. The mercurial half-back has also topped the goal kicking charts for 2013.

Veteran Jamie Peacock has surpassed all expectations in this, his 14th Super League season. Peacock is looking to become only the fourth player to win multiple Man of Steel awards, after he claimed the title a decade ago whilst playing for Bradford Bulls in 2003.

The 2013 Super League Man of Steel will be named at a gala dinner hosted at Old Trafford cricket ground in Manchester on Monday September 30, where other prestigious awards will be presented, including Coach of the Year and Young Player of the Year.

The three nominees for the coveted 2013 Super League Young Player of the Year are Hull FC centre Ben Crooks, London Broncos wing Kieran Dixon and Catalan Dragons full-back Morgan Escare.

Crooks, 20, has slipped seamlessly into the Hull FC first team this season, appearing at Wembley in the Tetley's Challenge Cup final and being selected in the 2013 Dream Team.

Kieran Dixon, 21, has scored 21 tries in 24 appearances for London Broncos this year, whilst Catalan's Escare, 21, has scored 15 tries this season from full-back position.

The 2013 Super League Man of Steel will be crowned five days before the 2013 Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Saturday October 5 (6.00pm).

Tickets for the 2013 Super League Grand Final cost from just £20. Family tickets giving entry to two adults and two children are also available for £70 and can be purchased by visiting www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk or calling 0844 856 1113.

For people with any form of disability the RFL offers a free assistant place when booking tickets. For people with a visual impairment or non-sighted disability we also offer audio visual descriptive commentary for all our events.

Yes I reckon Josh has been overlooked here. Don't think Lockers will get it due to his injuries keeping him out.

I'd prefer Peacock to win it if not but I suspect Brough will get it. Peacock like Lockers is up to International standard. Brough isn't but this is a domestic award and he has been key to Hudds winning the league.

Peacock or Brough will get it. You just have to listen to the two buffoons (on Sky) drooling over them, every time they touch a ball, to know that it's between those two players. :conf:

You maybe right, but it's wrong to win awards thru sentiment :(

But like I have said earlier, no doubt he will, judging by the sentimental comments we are hearing.

Like Wilkin, considered another blue eyed boy by the BBC.
