Half backs

Post by billyboy »

What happens to a half back when he signs for Wigan? We have signed Australian Test halves, Florimo & Matthew Johns and two of the top halves playing in England, Orr & Moran. All top players until they pull on the Cherry & White and then they become very ordinary players. The only half back we have recuited in recent years who has lived up to, if not exceeded, expectations has been Lammy. As for Betts not panic buying, he will do what Lindsay/Whelan tell him to do. I said in a previous posting that I don't believe that in the world of Rugby League there aren't players available. I absolutely agree that we shouldn't sign players for the sake of it, but I repeat, there must be players out there. Do we still pay scouts or is this another problem under Maurice's salary cap? That has been his excuse for every player he has allowed to leave and every player he has failed to sign.

Lam had the benefit of playing behind a decent pack most of the time.

Orr and Moran have been playing in a side with ONE specialist prop in the team.

I don't think that gives them much of a platform.

Also the pair of them have been injured. Moran didn't train the week before his last game due to illness and Orr went into the Hudds game with pain killing injections.

We need at least one more prop in the starting 17 for them to have a chance to do something and we need them (the half backs) free of injuries as well.

Early? We're 9 games in, which is 1/3rd of the season. We're fortunate that there's been a lot of weird results this year and the teams are well-bunched, but any other season would have seen us well off the pace given our results, making the 'end of season scramble' pretty irrelevant. Remember, it's not a case of getting into the top 6, it's the top 2 that's important and if we let the top 2 teams get any distance from us then we're going to struggle, injuries or no.

I think so but we are so short of experienced players if Orr says he wil play despite being injured Betts is going to play him.

As I said in another thread Betts should inlcude one of the young props to give Jerry and Jerome a rest.

Yes in a way were lucky to be 4th but imagine if we had a fit suad wed be 2nd now. SL has become closer but not better in quality.

a case of top teams worsening rather than lower teams getting better.
