Koukash has 'top Australian' in mind if Noble declines director post

Potential candidates for the job could include Frank Ponissi from the Melbourne Storm

Marwan Koukash says he has a top Australian in the NRL lined up to become Salford Reds' football director if Brian Noble declines the post.

Potential candidates for the job could include Frank Ponissi from the Melbourne Storm - this club has the same structures in place that new Salford coach Iestyn Harris worked to at Wigan and will now implement.

Other possibles include Tim Sheens and Peter Mulholland.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

How can he have someone else in mind for a 'post' that didn't exist until he sacked Noble?

Nobby has been given the same deadline as Anna in Coronation Street. By a strange coincidence, the possible outcome is the same for both of them!

Noble is an old fashioned English coach that will stabilise a team, but is not a dynamic coach. Wigan was a perfect example when we changed coaches the same players under a different direction looked a totally different team. I blame the Salford owner for not doing his homework on the type of coach he needed, and that is down to his lack of knowledge of our game. I still feed he has made another bad decision, he needs a top Australian coach with experience.

Exactly, but unlike signing Sam, SBW, Thurston et al, if he tabled a massive bid for the likes of Bellamy etc, he might be called upon to put his money where his mouth is!

Would he really want a top Aussie coach? They might not let him get away with his micro management of a club in a sport he still knows little about. I don't mind his attempts to stir things up with the rfl and salary cap etc but I do think he should leave the playing side well alone and hire someone who knows what they are talking about, even if it is to learn from them to pull the strings again years down the line.

Exactly, a man who knows nothing about the game, but good at shouting his mouth off to make others think that he is some kind of knight in shining armour who will solve all the games problems but only doing it to boost his own ego.

Football is now full of them!

Noble got the Salford job because his CV looks fantastic. He lost his job because his style of rugby isn't fantastic.

His CV hasn't looked up to much since 2006. He couldn't turn a Wigan team with far better players than Salford have into a winning side when he was given 3 1/2 years without interference to do so. He'd have lost the job eventually for failing to do the same with Salford but you have to ask if Koukash is this impatient how long has Harris got?

It's now in the press that Noble has been given a deadline of 5pm Friday to accept the job of Director of football or leave. Koukash has said he has "the biggest name in the game" lined up to take the role if Noble doesn't want it. Well if he has why has he offered the job to Noble in the first place?

I am no fan of Noble but this kind of treatment and public brinkmanship is ridiculous.
