Dan on Trophy Trail

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors centre Dan Sarginson says he joined the club to win trophies, as his side go into their fifth round Tetley's Challenge Cup tie with Hunslet Hawks at the DW Stadium on Sunday (3.00pm)
.
The Warriors are looking to the take another step closer to staging a successful defence of the Challenge Cup after they beat Hull FC 16-0 in the final last year, and Sarginson believes there is no better club to do that with.

"There's no better club to be at to win trophies and that's exactly why I've come here to Wigan really," said Sarginson. "We know we've had an easier draw than some other teams, obviously Leeds Rhinos and St Helens coming up against each other is good for us, but we can't wait for the weekend."

Wigan won twice over the Easter weekend, an impressive win away at St Helens preceding a dominant display against Bradford Bulls, and Sarginson says the momentum gained from those victories can be used going forward.

"The weekend was fantastic," said Sarginson.

"The boys put in a major effort in being unbeaten over the Easter period."

"I've learnt that that is something we really pride ourselves on here, and it is seen as a really important period of the year by the club, so the confidence amongst the lads is very high."

Opponents Hunslet sit top of Championship One and Sarginson says that Wigan will respect them and go into the game as they would any other.

"We'll look at them on video this week," said Sarginson.

"There's always the thought that a big side might go in underprepared but we won't do that, we'll prepare fully just as we would for any team we come up against.

"Hopefully we'll do well this weekend and kick on into the quarter-finals."

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
