He would likely be off the pace and get injured easily with those knees and then were would we be?

I don't see how that is different from either of our recognised half-backs at the moment. Both are off the pace and injured easily.
At least with Lam we would have a ball player, someone who can organise the attacks and with a quality kicking game.
You can't teach experience, he would organise the pack as well as the backs.
\sorry but this is one step to far Lam is a massive step backwards, makes us look a laughing stock yet again.
But you are right you can't teach experience... Betts wiil take years to gain it, we hav'nt got the time. We need a coach. A new coach may get respect from the players and take us up a notch or two !!
We'd be a complete laughing stock. Any injuries we have (and it's only 4!!)are not a half back. We are overrun with options here - Orr, Moran, Godwin, Brown, Coyle. Not great options admittedly, but what sort of message would we be sending? If Lam comes back someone has to admit their responsibility re recruitment and fall on his sword.
I admit Lam is a great player and ten million times the player morans appearing to be at the moment, but Lam recommended Moran (be blind to that wrong if you dare) so there must be soemthing he can do apart from drop balls!!!!!
It'd just be a bad thing for the team, making them think they arent good enough they have to bring a retired guy to play for them
