Hull FC will miss out on long-term target Scott Taylor – for now

Hull FC will not continue their pursuit of Scott Taylor for next season, but the Wigan prop still wants to join in the future, the Mail understands.

Taylor has been a long-term target for Hull, with coach Lee Radford stepping up the club's interest in a player he knows well.

The Black and Whites had hoped to bring the 23-year-old Hull-born forward to the club for the 2015 campaign, but that move has been thwarted by Wigan activating the third and final year of his contract at the DW Stadium.

With the Warriors insisting Taylor is not for sale, he will play for the reigning double winners next season.

Hull, who have already spent a significant six-figure sum to bring half-back Marc Sneyd to the KC Stadium next season, are not prepared to tempt Wigan with a similar offer, especially as Radford is already well stocked in the front row for next year with Mickey Paea, Iafeta Paleaaesina, Liam Watts and Chris Green all under contract.

Taylor is understood to have been keen to join Hull, a club supported by his family. However, both the player and the Black and Whites are still likely to get their wish with sources suggesting Taylor will leave Wigan at the end of next season to sign for FC.

Wigan paid £100,000 to take Taylor to the DW after buying him out of the final year of his Hull KR contract, ending Hull's hopes of landing the player.

Having won the Grand Final and the Challenge Cup final against Hull, Taylor enjoyed a stellar first year with the Warriors and has become a trusted player for coach Shaun Wane.

This season, he has continued to be a key figure in Wigan's bid for a return to Old Trafford.

While Hull are happy to take a patient approach in their pursuit of Taylor, the club are stepping up their recruitment for next year.

The addition of a further three players remains a possibility, but it's more likely Hull will bring in two more names as they chase a new centre and a second row.

Football manager Motu Tony is understood to have made approaches to several players, but an announcement on any further additions appears to be some way off with Hull not yet in final discussions with any of the players.

Hope so. I am not convinced Hull under Radford will progress significantly so Scott could be wasting his time there irrespective of his first RL love tie. Far better to wait 3 or 4 years.

Notice how it says sources close to Taylor not Scott's actual words, IMO if there was any truth in this story what so ever Waney would have sent him on his way. Scott is a good player but he's easily replaced

I am not sure how easily replaceable he is, as I think he is our best prop. But, at least we will have a fair bit of time to see how Clubb, Flower, Eddie, Crsoby, Greenwood (?), Sutton (?), etc develop over the off season. While I think we'd miss him badly next year, there is so much improvement in the rest of the group he may not be such a big miss the follwoing year. If he has an ounce of ambition, he will stay where he is, of course.

I am not sure how easily replaceable he is, as I think he is our best prop. But, at least we will have a fair bit of time to see how Clubb, Flower, Eddie, Crsoby, Greenwood (?), Sutton (?), etc develop over the off season. While I think we'd miss him badly next year, there is so much improvement in the rest of the group he may not be such a big miss the follwoing year. If he has an ounce of ambition, he will stay where he is, of course.

He's the best prop out of two converted second rowers ( Clubb & Eddie), some potentially good kids and Ben & Gil. Props are not exactly our strongest position and any of them are easily replaced, George & Tom Burgess would rip SL defended apart you can't say that about any of our props

Our recruiting gets better and better,and it needs to to bolster the in house operation. We will get used to players leaving for all sorts of reasons,including moving on so called established players who falter.,OR were never good enough in the first place .The search for size/power will intensify, with the undersized back row coming under scrutiny. Tomkins and Gelling are a boost,and anybody smaller will come under pressure to compete. This time next year we might be close to the oz champion club team,which is all we can ask for. That will be enough to keep us in top 2 at home. BESTS

Could you imagine the frenzy should Bateman,Farrell,or Lockers coming onto the open market. For players who are so called undersized they don't half do a damned good job. As for Scott Taylor the only thing that I find disappointing is that Wigan have so far not come out with a Five year deal that would dissuade any interest from Hull or any other interested parties. However that may yet come about as nothing as been said by the player or the club.Easily our best impact player and still relatively young for a prop who can only get better.
