LEE Mossop is heading back to Wigan Warriors after a deal was struck today (Friday).
Scott Taylor looks set to leave and Gil Dudson may also depart to free up salary cap cash and create a front-row opening for the England international.
The Evening Post revealed earlier this week how the prop looked set to be cutting short his NRL deal with Parramatta to return to Super League.
At first, it appeared Leeds were in pole position to land his signature.
Wigan had first refusal on his signature, but with a cluster of front-rowers – boosted by last week’s capture of Huddersfield’s Larne Patrick – and little room under the salary cap, it was thought the Warriors would miss out.
But since then, interest from other clubs in Taylor and Dudson has grown and at least one may by heading out the exit – making way for Mossop to sign.
Mossop, 25, was keen to play for Wigan in 2015 rather than join Leeds.
His return follows Joel Tomkins’ decision to cut short his spell in union to rejoin the Warriors.
Mossop’s sole NRL season was bookended by long spells on the sidelines with shoulder problems.
Meanwhile, the club yesterday confirmed a Wigan XIII will face London Skolars on Friday, January 16.
Bosses were pleased with the impact last year’s match made. It will take place in the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC), in the heart of the City of London.
Wigan won last year’s Capital Challenge 48-0.
