Rangi Chase

He may not be the best etc or peoples idea of a halfback BUT his effort to set up a try for Salford was the stuff that dreams are made of. Pure magic.

Where Chase is concerned, I only wish he was at our club playing at Stand Off as apart from the less experienced Ryan Hampshire, we have not got one.

Plenty of Scrum Haves/Hookers though.

He may have a bit of BA, but any different than many other good players?

Chase is a luxury player, he wont do the hard stuff for you and hes a grub as a player.

That said there is no denying that when he wants to he can pull off some things on a rugby pitch that other players couldn't even manage on the training ground, he is an extremely talented player given the right circumstances.

Incredible talent when he does stuff like that.
Still wouldn't want him at Wigan though.
We have a very good stand off anyway in Ryan Hampshire, trouble is he can't get a game there.

Too true we have, but it would appear that the norm at Wigan and indeed the game these days is to have two Scrum Haves rather than a Scrum Halve and a specialist Stand Off like the days of Kenny, Ella, Hanley, Barrett, Hill Brothers, Mountford at Wigan and Topliss, Hughes, Hardisty, Millward, Eckersley, Watkins, Brophy, Shoebottom, Horne etc at other clubs.

And before anyone says it, some could play Scrum Half if required because of any injury or suspension.

Like Tomkins before him, he is being converted into a Full Back which is a pity when they are both natural Stand Offs
like David Bolton.

I am certainly not his biggest fan but that was an unbelievable bit of skill from Chase, probably the best I've seen. His round the back effort with the ball, where he puts the ball round his back then goes himself, of a couple of years ago was also fantastic.

One of the best exponents of the around the back pass was Gary Connolly!
