Or perhaps the asking prices are so far off the scale so as to be ridiculous. It's entirely possible that other clubs don't want to sell to Wigan for whatever reason so they ask silly money to release players from contracts, whereas the selling club may not be so much against other clubs and the release-costs are lower. It's not an open market where players have fixed price tags, there's no "what you see is what you pay". Each club has to make its own deals for players, and the selling clubs can make things up as they go along.
Harris, Ellis, Gleeson are all deals done lately for top players and Wigan wasn't even mentioned or rumoured to be linked to these players. We just don't seem to be in the equation as regards the transfer of high quality players. Why is this?
Could it be we aren't linked to high quality players because we aren't a high quality club? After all, if you were, say, a 24 yr old Aussie player weighing up your options based on clubs performances in Superlaegue since its inception 10 yrs ago, why would you choose Wigan?
